A Place to Call Home

Charles and I had a long talk Friday night...like, really long. Some promises were made, and it was decided that Tad will stay here with us...forever. The way he looks at me, the emotion there, it's not something a camera can catch and I don't know that I could feel good about finding him a new home when all is said and done. This bond will only get stronger, and I don't know that I could betray him with a new family. I know that sounds mean; I can't find the right word...but, I'm sure you all know what I mean.

If you don't...perhaps this video may explain it better.

Charles and I went out last night and bought Tad a collar and a tag...I think he really, really liked it. He can't wear it all the time...it's way too big right now, so I don't want him unattended with it. He wears it outside on his walks, and I know he enjoys that.

Tag Front

Tag Back - My # is under the white line. ;)

Tad wearing his collar.

We believe Tad's eyes are infected, and so he's getting an antibiotic eye ointment in them now along with wiping them clean a few times a day.

His skin is less irritated and inflamed, however he's more itchy. So, he's really tearing himself up with his nails.I think the Benadryl is helping with the itching some. But, the mange will get worse before it gets better, so we're prepared for that.

He'll get his first bath tomorrow, and I know that'll help him feel TONS better. His skin is getting dry and flaky now, so getting all that dead skin and scabs off will do wonders for him. The tops of his feet crack and bleed each time we walk him, and that makes me so sad. I  hope that he will not suffer from dry skin his whole life. But, if he does...he'll get some skin supplements to keep that under wraps.

We're going to try and check his kidneys, liver, and other blood values tomorrow, as well as his heartworm status. I am nervous about what we may find, but I've got faith in Tad. He's cleared all hurdles thus far...what's a few more?

  1. Thank you for all you are doing for him! I watched video in tears, all the animal abuse in this world sickens me, I really wish I could help! I keep saying that if I ever win the lottery I would devote my life entirely to helping and loving as many animals as I could, until then I will help with what ever I can for free, I am very financially tight or I would donate to you, but I will send many prayers for you and Tad, again Thank You!!!

  6. It was obvious in many images that Tad simply adores you! I'm happy you decided to keep him with you. Yes it would have been unbearable for you to give him away even to the best family in the world. Don't feel bad, words can be hard to find, people will understand what you meant.
Oooh I'm sure he will feel soooo good after a good bath! He looks everyday better.
I'll keep fingers crossed for all the tests and I hope all will be ok.
Hug Tad for me! *hugs* for you too :)

  7. How could you NOT keep him? Fate brought you together and he wouldn't be alive without you! Some things in the universe are truly mysteries: that you found him, that you didn't just keep driving, and that you have a place in your heart for a damaged soul who needed you so much!

  8. Tiffany, the situation is identical to my bulldogs. Her skin isn't dry anymore and neither are her paws, but they still get blood red if she walks too far, so shes over weight because of that. Lol My point is, this will get better. Her face wasn't even recognizable as a bulldog and her feet were clubbed from it. She had lived five long years with mange, so you can imagine. Its been almost two years since her mange was cleared and the only after affect is sensitive paws. So hopefully tad won't have any long term pain from it. When we've played in the yard too long, she comes in with bright red paws and lays down and licks them and it breaks my heart. The only thing we have found that helps, more so than ointments, etc is when we come in from playin, Ill lay her on the couch to watch tv with me and I will alternate a thin ice pack in a cool wet wash cloth on all her paws. I only adopt special needs dogs and my heart is drawn to dogs with mange, so I have adopted quite a few with the disease so i just wanted to give you that tip I've learned with my latest rescue. That, and the dancing paws vitamins work wonders for hair regrowth once the mange is gone. :)

  10. I'm so happy that you made this official decision. I'm sure everyone is thrilled to hear this too. You and TAD belong together.

About the video: The moments right before the three-minute mark (and a few moments after it as well), where you're sitting on the step and TAD has his face/head in your hand... the way that he's looking at you... I just about choked on my tears, I was crying so hard. What love. What absolute love. Beautiful.

When I saw the pictures of the two of you, the way you look at each other, and then saw the beautiful gift you gave him, I thought there would be no way to let him go anywhere else now! 23. Tiffany, I don't have to see Tad's face to understand the bond between you two. I only have to see your face. I am so happy Tad will join your family. He deserves you and you deserve him. You two have what most of us will never know.

Thanks for sharing Tad's story. When I see him and you I don't think of the abuse and the abuser, life if full of abuse. I think of the beauty of Tad's rescuer. It really gives me faith.

Onward and upward for the Abandoned Dog, now known as Tad!

  24. The way he looks at you . . . it reminds me of how my Doodle Pup looks at me. Like, "I trust you, Mama." I think you two were destined to meet.
